About Us

Shady Brook Village has been a Taos Canyon landmark for many years. It began as a fur buying station on a spur off the Old Santa Fe trail in the 1800's when the stagecoaches came thru, to the modern pueblo styled village that it is today. Surrounded by the Kit Carson National Forest, Shady Brook Village is centrally located for all of northern New Mexico's year-round, endless adventures. Our modern luxury dwellings are fully equipped and fully furnished, for your dream vacation plans.

Our Location

Shady Brook Village is exquisitely located 7500 feet up in the beautiful Taos Canyon, with breath taking mountain views in virtually every direction, and only ten minutes from town. The gurgling Fernando de Taos River is just across the road and runs the length of the Canyon. Nestled in the Kit Carson National Forest we have the year round beauty of towering evergreen pine trees, sprinkled with annual trees that provide the gorgeous fall colors.

Our Unique Lodging

Our Lodging accommodations are quite unique. There are eight lodging choices that are all completely different with not two alike, ranging from our one bedroom/one bathroom single story cottage called the ENCHANTED SUITE, to the four bedroom three full bathroom GRAND VILLA. Some are free standing connected only by a front privacy wall, and three are in a triplex townhouse style configuration. Some have covered decks and some have open decks. All have fully equipped kitchens with utensils, gas log fireplaces, washer dryer, high definition flat screen TV's with remotes and DVD players. Whether You are a "honey mooning" couple, or a large family or group, Shady Brook has the perfect accommodation to make your vacation a five star experience.

The Shady Brook Village Indian

A very unique feature of Shady Brook Village deals with the mysterious "Shady Brook Indian." His full story isn't completely known but the staff at Shady Brook continues to find clues as to his creation and history. In years past the "Golden Indian" statue was repeatedly stolen, but somehow miraculously returned 5 times. Back in the 1950's/1960's Shady Brook Village was called "The Golden Indian." It was later purchased and fully remodeled with modern furnishings, but still in the South-western Pueblo style. The Indian statue somehow remained and his pleasant demeanor and welcoming wave became a landmark of Shady Brook Village.

Attractions

Shady Brook Village has an endless variety of nearby summer and winter attractions. Hot Air Ballooning is in operation year round weather permitting, and we are conveniently located between FOUR ski/ winter/summer fun facilities,  ranging from 20 minutes away to 45 minutes. Skiing, Sledding, Snow Tubing, Snowmobiling, Horse drawn Sleigh-rides in the winter, and Zip-lining, Sight Seeing, Rock Climbing, Rappelling, Horseback Riding, River Rafting, Hiking Trails, Fly Fishing and more, are on the menu for summer fun. We have over 100 local art galleries, countless restaurants, rodeo, musical entertainment, a city park as well as a Family Center with adult and children's swimming pools and indoor ice skating. Just 25 minutes away is the breath taking Rio Grande River Gorge which resembles the well know Grand Canyon but not as big.
